Running Uphill

Session Two

Dive Bars and Junkyards

Now in the possession of Nabo’s commlink and fearing the worst, the team built a Faraday cage in which to activate the commlink, lest it be destroyed by nefarious hackers or built in security measures. Once satisfied that it was safe, the team opened up the commlink and discovered an email advertising the sale of an optical disc that matched the description given by the Johnson. The source of this email: A hacker named Zipper.

The team tracked Zipper to the Cathode Glow, a bar catering mainly to hackers. En route, Ariel disappeared and met with her contact, Sharon Norris, selling the contact/scheduling/personal details of rising star Nabo out from under the rest of the team for a healthy sum of nuyen plus some knowsofts to help with dealing with the nerdy hackers of the Glow.

In the Cathode Glow, Striker’s robo-apendages were hacked by mischievous patrons, Ariel played video games with Zipper and her girlfriend, and Ahriman stunbolted a poor innocent man quietly into submission for hacking Striker. After a short while, Zipper was questioned and gave up the location of the man selling the optical disc: Kerwin Loomis, owner of The Coda.

Upon arriving at The Coda, the team discovered a small group of gangers known as The Trashers (whom Striker would later befriend) as well as an open fire escape at the back of the bar. Heading through the fire escape, the team stumbled upon a junkyard in which a Shangri-La strike force was attempting to apprehend Loomis, who was hiding somewhere in the rubble.

The team quickly dispatched the Shangri-La force and questioned Loomis himself. Loomis was found to have the disc on his person, and claimed that it was willed to him by his father, who had passed away very recently. The team debated buying the disc or taking it by other means, eventually deciding on convincing Loomis that the disc was a danger-magnet.

Loomis gave the disc up, and the team found that the words ‘Carrion Sessions ’48, JB. For enlightenment, seek out absent friends’ were written across it. The team took the disc back to Ahriman’s place for further analysis, thus breaking Ahriman’s vow and officially making his apartment their base of operations.
